MTN renews operating licence with CameroonYAOUNDE, (CAJ News) – MTN Cameroon, the mobile network operator, has announced the renewal of its licence with the country’s government.
Government officials and MTN executives attended the signing of the concession agreement in Yaounde.
In addition to the 2G licence, MTN shall exploit the 3G and 4G technologies for the next 15 years, and becomes the first operator capable of offering 4G in Cameroon.
“This Wednesday 11th March 2015 is a great day in the history of our organization, MTN Cameroon. The State of Cameroon is renewing this day, the confidence placed on MTN in February 2000.
“It has just renewed our GSM licence, and also provided us with the possibility to exploit 3G and 4G which are new technologies adapted to the evolution of telecommunications on the global scale,” said MTN Cameroon Chief Executive Officer, Karl Toriola.
MTN has the largest market share in the Central African country.
Last week, the South African-headquartered MTN Group said its Cameroon subsidiary delivered a solid performance for the past year ended December 31, increasing its subscriber base by 10,9 percent to 9,7 million, about 44 percent of the total population.
