LAGOS, (CAJ News) – THE majority of locals use pure or sachet water as their main source of the precious liquid.

This is according to a survey conducted by a regional polling agency which established that 29 percent of the population had access to pure/satchet water.

NOIPolls established that 18 percent used tap water while 17 percent accessed water through private boreholes.

It added 14 percent accessed water from public boreholed and the rest relied on bottled water.

According to NOIPolls, the north central region accounted for most respondents accessing pure water (37 percent) while the north east zone had largest number of respondents accessing the liquid through taps (41 percent).

The opinion poll was conducted in the week starting last Monday.

It involved telephone interviews of a random nationwide sample.

A total of 1 000 randomly selected phone-owning Nigerians aged 18 years and above, representing the six geopolitical zones in the country, were interviewed.

“With a sample of this size, we can say with 95 percent confidence that the results obtained are statistically precise – within a range of plus or
