ECOWAS denounces Mali violence
from AUGUSTINE OSAYANDE in Abuja, NigeriaABUJA, (CAJ News) – THE Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has condemned the recent violent attacks in Mali.
The violence has resulted in several fatalities, including a United Nations peacekeeper.
“Both attacks are particularly discouraging as they come in the wake of a preliminary Peace Accord aimed at paving the path for sustainable peace in Mali,” ECOWAS stated from its Headquarters in Abuja.
The regional body said it strongly deplored these unpatriotic acts of violence and enjoined all armed groups in Mali to take the path of dialogue.
It commiserated with all the families of the affected victims and stands in solidarity with United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA).
“The regional body takes this opportunity to salute the Peacekeepers in Mali for their courage and service.
“It reiterates its support to the government and people of Mali and remains actively seized of the situation in the country,” ECOWAS stated.
