Absa Premiership reaches home stretchby TINTSWALO BALOYI
JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – THE Absa Premiership is taking shape as it reaches its business end of things.
It is becoming clearer by the day who will be crowned champions, get relegated or be involved in a battle to avoid the axe.
The top eight berths are also up for grabs.
On Tuesday, former champions ,Orlando Pirates, host unpredictable Chippa United at Orlando Stadium while bottom placed AmaZulu entertain on-form Bidvest Wits at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
Both matches start at 19:30, but it is at Moses Mabhida Stadium where AmaZulu will be fighting tooth and nail in order to win the three valuable points that would enable them escape the looming relegation.
On the other hand, third – placed Bidvest Wits, commonly known as the Clever Boys, will be aiming to win the match in order to enhance their chances of winning the Absa premiership league title.
Elsewhere on Wednesday, rejuvenated University of Pretoria will host struggling Platinum Stars at Tuks Stadium.
To date, the University of Pretoria have gone nine games unbeaten.
The AmaTuks are placed seventh on the league log standing with 29 points from 21 games while Platinum Stars are third from the bottom with 21 points from 20 matches played to date.
Defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns host Polokwane City at Lucas Moripe Stadium in a match likely to go either way.
Any victory against City would see Sundowns reduce runaway leaders Kaizer Chiefs’ cushion from 11 to eight points at the top.
Struggling Moroka Swallows will entertain Free State Stars at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto, Ajax Cape Town host Black Aces at the Cape Town Stadium while Bloemfontein Celtic will battle it out with SuperSport United at Free State Stadium.
Maritzburg United rounds off the Wednesday encounters with a match against Chiefs at Harry Gwala Stadium.
A win for the visitors will go a long way in reclaiming the league
In the only match of the day on Friday, Chippa will host AmaZulu at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
