JOHANNESBURG – THE SOUTH African Absa Premiership race has been blown wide open following defending champions, Mamelodi Sundowns’ defeat at the hands of Bidvest Wits.

Sibusiso Vilakazi scored the only goal of the match as his side handed Downs defeat at the Bidvest Stadium in Braamfontein, Johannesburg on Tuesday evening.

The victory catapulted Wits to second on 40 points while the visitors drop to third three points behind.

Pacesetters Kaizer Chiefs lead the pack with 47 points with a game in hand over Wits.

They have a chance to stretch their lead on Wednesday evening when they host Ajax Cape Town at FNB Stadium.

In another encounter, Free State Stars will be entertaining another Soweto giant, fourth-placed Orlando Pirates at Charles Mopeli Stadium.

The last match for Wednesday will pit Chippa United against a rejuvenated Polokwane City at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth.
