Relief for SA power consumers, for now

Load shedding

Load shedding

JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – ESKOM, the South African power utility, said it had suspended load shedding but insisted it might implement such measures agains as the system remained constrained.

The company said Stage 2 load shedding stopped on Thursday evening but it took longer to restore power to some areas.

“The electricity supply system remains very vulnerable due to a shortage of generation capacity as several units are currently out of service due to planned and unplanned outages.

“Any unforeseen incident in the power system will thus trigger the implementation of load shedding. This being Eskom’s maintenance season, we expect the power grid to remain constrained for the rest of the summer,” the utility added.

It apologised for the inconvenience to affected customers and thanked all electricity users for heeding its call to use electricity sparingly.

“Eskom will continue to provide regular updates on the status of the power system through all media platforms,” read a statement.
