ECOWAS planning experts meet in Lagos

ABUJA, (CAJ News) – NATIONAL planning experts of Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) member states are meeting in Lagos to discuss ways of harmonising and integrating the Community Strategic Framework (2016-2020) into national plans.

The plans to be mapped during the meetings scheduled to end on Friday, are aimed towards the realization of the ECOWAS Vision 2020 of a citizen-oriented community.

According to a statement obtained by this publication from ECOWAS headquarters in Abuja, the three-day meeting will discuss, among others, National Planning efforts in Member States and agree the methodology to ensure that these efforts reflect regional objectives to facilitate the achievement of regional economic development and integration.

Director: ECOWAS Strategic Planning, Essien Abel Essien, said the region is in the process of launching the Community Strategic Framework (CSF) and a Stakeholder Consultation mechanism with experts from Member States’ National Planning Ministries as critical partners.

He said the key objective of the meeting was to form a Technical Committee that will coordinate and harmonize strategic planning at regional and national levels and report to sectoral Ministers for the escalation of recommendations to the Council of Ministers for adoption and approval.

Essien said the Technical Committee will facilitate the coordination and integration of regional aspirations into national plans and lay the ground for effective execution strategic/development plans.
