JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – SOUTH Africans must brace for a dark weekend after Eskom, the power utility, projected it load shedding to continue.

Eskom, in a statement, said the power system is expected to be constrained for the foreseeable future.

“The system is constrained but stable today. We would like thank customers for heeding our call to use electricity sparingly. Forecast for the weekend and the coming week indicates that the system will remain extremely constrained.

“Any extra load or faults in the system may necessitate the need to go into load shedding. We will keep the customers updated on the state of the electricity system,” Eskom announced.

Eskom continues to make progress with its programme of planned maintenance but the system remains tight, the firm said.

“We urge all South Africans to partner with us to save 10 percent of their electricity usage throughout the day.

“This will make it significantly easier to manage the power system during this challenging time, while also enabling us to do planned maintenance to ensure the reliability of our plant,” Eskom said.

Eskom called on consumers to save power.
