Samsung launches football campaign for youth in Ghanafrom SAVIOUS KWINIKA in Accra, Ghana
ACCRA, (CAJ News) – HORDES of youth thronged Lizzy’s Sports Complex in Accra, Ghana on Friday to witness the launch of a major initiative aimed at inspiring youngsters represent their country at the highest level in football.
The initiative, tagged, “I See Your Dreams”, is the brainchild of Samsung, the global market leader in the electronics industry and a sponsor of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.
At the launch, local football legend Yaw Preko, urged youngsters not to relent on their dreams.
“Do not dare allow people discourage you from achieving your dreams of playing top-flight football.
“Listen to your heart! When you play football, yes, many of you wish to be like Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, but the most important thing is for you to enjoy the sport first,” Preko said.
To help drive the point home, the retired star brought medals he won as coach for Ghana under-20 squad at the Barcelona Olympic Games when the Black Stars youths won the bronze medal.
Ghana became the first African nation to win the bronze medal at the Olympics in 1992 in Barcelona, Spain.
He urged the aspiring footballers to embrace discipline.
“In order to succeed in your football career, please, I urge you to obey your coaches. Apart from obedience, I would encourage you to have self discipline, have determination and dream big,” said Preko.
Preko, who is the Ghana Samsung legend, started his football career with Powerlines, a small local club, before moving to Europe to play for R.S.C. Anderlecht in Belgium.
He had a successful career that won him three league championship titles.
He also played in Turkey between 1997-2004, before joining Halmstads BK in the Allsvenskan.
Samsung has been initiated and sponsored the “I See Your Dreams”, whose launch coincided with the opening of the Africa Cup of Nations Cup in Equatorial Guinea.
The campaign is set to end on February 8. It is also set for launch in Zambia.
Samsung’s other involvements in football includes a sponsorship of former European champions Chelsea.
