LAGOS – NIGERIA’S main opposition political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct credible elections next month.

The party’s Chairman, John Oyegun, said, “We ask you to collectively insist on free, fair and transparent elections because that is the only way to allow the wishes of the people to manifest.”

He said the party would only accept the results of a credible poll.

“As a party we assure you that we will congratulate President Goodluck Jonathan and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) if our presidential candidate and party are defeated in free and fair elections and will not go to court,” Oyegun said in a statement.

This year’s general election is forecasted to be a tense affair between the APC and PDP.
