PRETORIA – SOUTH African President, Jacob Zuma, has congratulated Sir Anerood Jugnauth as Prime Minister of Mauritius.

The election follows a resounding victory by his party in the country’s legislative elections that were held earlier this month.

In a statement, Zuma also congratulated the people of Mauritius for conducting peaceful, credible and free and fair elections.

“The successful elections in Mauritius attest to the stability and strength of democracy in this Southern African country,” he said.

Zuma further expressed South Africa’s readiness to continue to partner with the Government and the people of Mauritius in the pursuit of the already existing mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.

South Africa and Mauritius enjoy strong, warm and fraternal relations that are characterized by regular and increasing interaction at all levels.
