NAIROBI – VETERAN long distance runner, Kenneth Mungara won gold in the just-ended Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon.

The 41-year-old Mungara beat younger athletes to the title in a time of 2:16:42 ahead of fellow countrymen, David Tarus and Charles Kanyao.

Mungara beat the six-year record by fellow countryman Luke Kibet.

He however complained of the hot weather conditions citing it as a major challenge to achieving his anticipated time.

The competition had contenders from Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Uganda and Sudan.
