JOHANNESBURG – SOUTH Africa’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) pacesetters, Kaizer Chiefs, are favourites to maintain their unbeaten start to the season when they host relegation-threatened Platinum Stars at the peter Mokaba Stadium in Limpopo on Tuesday.

Bubbling with confidence following their 2-0 emphatic victory in a Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates, Chiefs, who to date have not lost in 14 league matches played so far, look set to pocket the three vital points against Dikwena.

Firing from all cylinders, Amakhosi, boasting hungry and prolific strikers spearheaded by tough tackling Zimbabwe midfielder Willard Katsande, are leaving no stone unturned in their quest to reclaim the league title from Mamelodi Sundowns.

While playing entertaining football, Chiefs have been tight at the back where Tefu Mashamaite and Eric Mathoho have been solid.

However, it will be foolhardy to underestimate Stars.

Despite their position, they are the only side to beat Chiefs this season when they knocked them out of the just-concluded Telkom Knockout.

The Chiefs / Platinum Stars is the only match for Tuesday but the PSL has organised other matches for Wednesday when struggling Pirates host defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns at Orlando Stadium in Soweto.

Pirates, who are yet to get a substantive coach following the resignation of Vladimir Vermezovic, will be facing a transformed Sundowns capable of winning away from home.

Skilful midfielder-cum-striker, Khama Billiart will partner fellow countryman marksman, Cuthbert Malajila, to cause havoc in the Pirates defence.

Other midweek matches lined up comprise what promises to be a thriller between Bidvest Wits against Ajax Cape Town at Bidvest Wits Stadium in Braamfontein on Wednesday while on-form Maritzburg United clash with bottom-placed AmaZulu in a KwaZulu provincial Derby.
