Chiefs edge Pirates in Soweto Derby

JOHANNESBURG – KAIZER Chiefs have beaten sworn rivals Orlando Pirates in an exciting Soweto Derby at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday.
The match was value for money to the 72 000 fans that swarmed the FNB Stadium.
The match was cagey at the beginning with the opening chance coming in the 19th minute but Zimbabwean Kingston Nkhatha headed a fine delivery over the bar.
In the 38th minute, Pirates midfielder Thandani Ntshumyelo positioned himself well but hit the side netting.
Chiefs opened the scoring through on-form Siphiwe Tshabalala who poked in from inside the box after a perfect cross from Bernard Parker in the 51st minute.
He however squandered two great chances in succession to kill off the game.
With Pirates chasing a likely equaliser, they were always going to be exposed at the back.
Substitute Siphelele Mthembu finished a breakway move to extend his side’s lead much to the eruption of the black and gold half of the FNB Stadium.
