JOHANNESBURG – RESERVE Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) Governor, Dr John Mangudya, said the atmosphere was conducive for banks to invest in the country.

“Most foreign banks operating in Zimbabwe, such as Stanbic, Standard Bank, among others are South African.

“If there was no peaceful environment prevailing in Zimbabwe, why are these banks still doing,” Dr. Mangudya said.

The central bank governor was speaking in Sandton, Johannesburg, South
Africa at a recent investment business meeting organised by The Herald,
the country’s biggest newspaper.

Dr. Mangudya said Zimbabwe boasted one of the best weather patterns,
peace, stability, good human capital, open economy as well as rich
resource endowment.

He also hinted that crime was low in Zimbabwe.

He concluded by appealing for Southern African nations to support each
other insisting that during the European Union’s financial crisis, the
member bloc supported Greece while in North Africa the Arab world stood by Egypt.
