Bafana coach in double poser for Sudan clash
by SAVIOUS KWINIKA
JOHANNESBURG – SOUTH Africa head coach, Ephraim Mashaba faces a selection poser ahead of the penultimate African Nations Cup qualifier against Sudan.
The teams square up at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, two weeks after a memorial service for murdered goalkeeper and captain Senzo Meyiwa, was held in front of thousands of fans at the historic venue.
The death of Meyiwa appear to have rattled Mashaba’s plans as he had not made his mind as to who will replace Meyiwa between the sticks or take over the captain’s armband.
Darren Keet, who is the most experienced keeper in the side, Siyabonga Mpontshane and Brilliant Khuzwayo have been called up.
Ahead of the 3pm kickoff, the coach was nonetheless confident of a positive result that would secure Bafana Bafana a berth at next year’s African Nations Cup.
“I will be happy if we sum up this (match) by beating Sudan, which will make our life easy when we go to Nigeria,” Mashaba.
South Africa round-up their qualification campaign next Wednesday when they travel to Lagos, Nigeria for a date with the Super Eagles.
