ICT firms win big at AfricaCom Awards

CAPE TOWN – AIRTEL, Huawei and WIOCC were the biggest winners at the just-ended AfricaCom Awards, the biggest accolades in the information and communications technology sector in the continent.

The companies clinched two awards each at a ceremony held in Cape Town South Africa.

Airtel secured the Best App for Africa and Best Mobile Money Solution while Huawei won the Best Marketing Campaign for its 67 minutes for Mandela initiative and the Best Cost Efficiency Solution.

Liquid Telecom was awarded the Best Pan Africa Initiative as well as the VSAT Best Innovation for Africa.

Orange, meanwhile, nominated for 12 of the 13 accolades on offer, could only manage one award-the Excellence in Customer Experience Management.

Other winners include Solarway for Best Device for Africa, Ericsson for Breakthrough LTE Development, Afrigis for Changing Lives Awards and Millicom Tanzania for Most Innovative Service.

More than 160 entries were received for this year’s awards.
