Bafana face Super Eagles

by TINSWALO BALOYI
JOHANNEBSURG – THE South African senior men’s football team will arrive in the country next Monday for a crucial African Nations Cup 2015 qualifier against Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

According to an itinerary made available by the South African Football Association (SAFA), Bafana Bafana will arrive in Lagos in the evening before departing in the morning for Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State, where the match will take place later that week.

They will arrive after travelling for more than an hour, before they go through a training session.

They will train at the Akwa Ibom National Stadium, later on Tuesday, ahead of the crucial match against the Super Eagles a day later at the same venue.

The visitors will depart Uyo for Lagos the following morning before eventually flying out of the country in the evening.

It is worth mentioning however the match against Nigeria could be a mere fulfilling of a fixture for Bafana Bafana if they manage maximum points in an earlier match against Sudan.

The Confederation of African Football, in an unprecedent development acceded to SAFA’s request to move the match from Mbombela to KwaZulu-Natal Province, to allow the home side to play in honour of its captain, Senzo Meyiwa, who was murdered in a botched robbery outside Johannesburg recently.

Bafana, with eight points, are in firm control of Group A, followed by Congo.

Nigeria are languishing in third, four points behind the group leaders and a point above bottom-placed Sudan.
