No changes to AFCON 2015 schedule

Africa Cup of Nations trophy

JOHANNESBURG – THE 2015 Africa Cup of Nations will go ahead as planned next year.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed the event will be held on January 17 to February 8.

The confirmation follows a CAF meeting this past weekend in Algeria where the football mother body considered the request of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Morocco on the postponement of the event.

CAF ruled Morocco was not in great danger of Ebola.

Hence the country would host the upcoming FIFA World Club championships, hence CAF argued it could stage AFCON.

CAF argued postponing the tournament would affect its schedule.

“CAF ‘s schedule have expanded over the years and today counts 11 competitions. Any change in the timing of events would be detrimental to the rest of the agenda.”

A meeting of the Executive Committee will be held next Tuesday in Egypt to take necessary decisions.
