NAIROBI – KENYA First Lady, Margaret Kenyatta, wished local athletes well for the upcoming New York Marathon.
The competition, one of the prime tournaments in the sport, is scheduled for the United States city on November 2.
“I would like to wish the local team led by Wilson Kipsang, Geoffrey Mutai and Edna Kiplagat all the best as they compete in the final major global marathon of the year, the New York Marathon, in a fortnight,” Kenyatta said during the launch of the 2015 First Lady Half Marathon.
She also congratulated Dennis Kimetto for breaking the World Marathon record in Berlin, Germany recently and praised Rita Jeptoo and Eliud Kipchoge for their dominating the Chicago Marathon earlier this month.
Earlier this week, Kenyatta meanwhile launched the First Lady Half Marathon.
The event urges healthy lifestyles and raises awareness of diseases.
Scheduled for March 8 next year, the race would raise funds for the ‘Beyond Zero Campaign.’
The campaign seeks to increase access to better healthcare through provision of mobile clinics to the underprivileged among Kenyans.
