JOHANNESBURG – GAUTENG’S Clapham High School havee crowned champions of the 2014 COPA Coca-Cola under 15 Football Tournament.

The side defeated Western Cape’s Robinvale Secondary School 4 – 0 in a thrilling game at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi this past weekend.

The hosts Silindokuhle High School from Pinetown claimed third spot in the third-fourth playoffs, posting a 3 –2 victory to Free State’s HTS Louis Botha High School.

However the glory belonged to Clapham, as they had captured the hearts of the fans by displaying skilful and impressive moves and scoring abilities.

Clapham High School is an academy that belongs to Premier Soccer League side, Mamelodi Sundowns . Former Sundowns stars, such as Isaac Shai and Godfrey Sapula, coached the team.

Clapham had a comfortable journey towards the finals, easily brushing aside Sikhulule 3-0, beating Silindokuhle 1-0, thrashing Sikhulule 4-0 once again and defeating Benny Sports Academy 1 – 0.

The High School secured a spot in the finals by walloping HTS Louis Botha 5-1 to meet against Robinvale.

Notha Ngcobo bagged himself a brace before Modise Malebogo and Buhle Mfodololo added their names on the score sheet to ensure that the Tshwane based school wrapped up their three-day tournament in emphatic fashion.

The winner were domineering in the awards section, with Shai scooping the coach of the tournament , Khulekani Kubheka taking home the goalkeeper of the series and Notho Ngcobo being awarded the player of the tournament.

Former Bafana Bafana winger Helman Mkhalele along with ex-Moroka Swallows duo consisting of Calvin Petersen and Noel Cousin were the tournament’s scouts.

Fetsi Mbele, Coca-Cola Marketing Assets, congratulated the winning team for their seamless display of team work and was delighted to see how the tournament unfolded.

“It’s been a great three days of football, a true showcase of football development at its best level. At Coca-Cola we pride ourselves with investments made on the youth.”

Through COPA Coca-Cola, the main objectives are to promote active healthy lifestyle through sports participation and provide a platform for grass roots development.
