Springboks, AllBlacks contest

JOHANNESBURG – THE ruling African National Congress (ANC) congratulated the senior national rugby squad following their 27-25 win over New Zealand.

The Springboks beat the highest-ranked All Blacks 27-25 in the 60 000 seater Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday.

Prior to Saturday, the Springboks had not beaten the All Blacks since 2011.

To make their victory over All Blacks much exciting, the Springboks had beaten visiting Australia last weekend 28-10 in another World Rugby Championship match played at Newlands a fortnight ago.

ANC applauded the Springboks for their sterling performance.

ANC spokesman, Zizi Kodwa, said the victory for the Springboks was a victory for the whole nation.

“This victory is the culmination of a strong performance by South Africa in the Rugby Championship, coming on the heels of an equally impressive game against Australia last weekend,” he said.

“The victory of the Springboks in particular and all our national teams in general is a victory of all South Africans. As a nation, we take immense pride in our athletes and their ability to promote and engender patriotism and advance social cohesion each time they take to the field.”
