New book probes problems afflicting Africa

JOHANNESBURG – THE mystery as to why Africa is the continued best endowed with resources but is the most ridden by problems is the inspiration behind a book a Ghanaian chartered accountant-cum-international development expert has authored a thought-provoking book.
Marricke Kofi Gane, who describes himself as a passionate African, has published the offering titled, “Is this why Africa is?”
As the title of the book alludes to, Gane said he was driven to write the book as a result of what the challenges he observed and witnessed as the continent went through them.
“As an African, Christian and international development expert and having lived in many places throughout the world, you quickly come to the realisation that we (Africans) have more than what it takes to make Africa the continent of envy.
“Then the dreaded question started haunting me from a youthful age –Why are not at par or ahead?” the 40-year-old said in an interview.
He explained why he chose the subject despite spending “60 percent of my time in London and the rest in Ghana and travelling.”
“Because I am African, it is the only continent for which my passion bears allegiance. It is because I understand the double frustration of being African both at home and in the Diaspora,” said Gane.
“Is this why Africa is?” explores the continent’s challenges such poverty, wars, famine and donor dependence syndrome despite the continent teems with mineral and oil resources as well human skills.
The book has already been launched on the Amazon market place and is readily available on the internet.
It is also selling around the continent.
