Chiefs lift MTN8
from TINTSWALO BALOYI in Durban, KZN
DURBAN – KAIZER Chiefs are the 2014 MTN8 champions!
This follows a solitary header from captain of the day Tefu Mashamaite in the 29th minute to send more than 50,000 fans into celebrations.
The MTN8 final was strongly contested at Moses Mabhidha Stadium in Durban, KwaZulu Natal on Saturday.
The well oiled Kaizer Chiefs played possessional fooftball in the first half, but changed the tactic again in the second half to confuse the out of sorts Orlando Pirates.
Instead of attacking in order to increase the scoreline, Kaizer Chiefs defended their goal area like possessed men.
Amakhosi’s game tactical approach worked wonders as they kept bringing new challenges to Pirates’ midfield and defence.
To make life difficult for Orlando Pirates, brilliant goalkeeper, Brilliant Kuzwayo denied the Buccuneers numerous clear scoring opportunities in both first and second halves, a move that earned the youngster the man of the match award.
For his effort as man of the match, Kuzwayo was presented with a whopping R10,000 plus a floating trophy.
Another enterprising Kaizer Chiefs player was Willard Katsande, who neutralised Orlando Pirates’ midfield.
Kaizer Chiefs, who last year finished the season without a trophy are the current premiership log leaders.
