PRETORIA – OFFICIALS from the South African Mission in Lagos are closely monitoring the situation following the tragic events unfolding at a guesthouse at the Synagogue Church of All Nations.

It was reported this past weekend more than 40 people died after the collapse of the building.

“Officials from the South African Mission in Lagos are at the scene liaising with rescue workers and government authorities in an attempt to establish whether any South African citizens have been affected by the disaster,” Nelson Kgwete, SA Department of International Relations and Co-operation stated.

He said the Department was in contact with some of the organizers of the tour groups that travelled to the Synagogue.

“We know of at least five South African church tour groups were at the Synagogue at the time of the collapse. However, it remains unclear how many South Africans were affected,” said Kgwete.

TB Joshua has a large following in the Southern African country.
