DRC Mining Indaba celebrates decade milestone
from JEAN KASSANGO
KINSHASA – THE iPAD Democratic Republic of Congo Mining and Infrastructure Indaba is celebrating a decade of development and success, organizers said.
This year’s edition is slated for October 22-23 in Kinshasa.
Event Director, Nicole Smith, said the event remained the only
mining-focused event in the DRC and the region.
“And thanks to the unfailing support and input from the government and the industry, we are celebrating 10 years of networking, development, progress and success,” she said.
This year’s iPAD DRC Mining and Infrastructure Indaba will focus on the liberalisation of the power sector in DRC, public-private partnerships and their impact for the electrification of the region, major projects and funding from donors, solutions and alternatives for operators to meet their power demand and economic growth.
“The mining industry in DRC has undoubtedly made a tremendous contribution to the impressive economic growth which reached 8,5 percent at the end of 2013.
“DRC is believed to hold mineral resources estimated at U$24-trillion dollars including deposits of gold, diamonds, copper, cobalt and tin,” Smith said.
Spintelligent, a leading Cape Town-based trade exhibition and conference organiser, and the African office of Clarion Events Ltd in the UK are organizing the iPAD DRC Mining and Infrastructure Indaba.
The DRC’s Ministry of Mines is an official supporter of this year’s event, which has secured industry support through the diamond sponsorship represented by Kamoto Copper Company as well as Engen, MMG, Standard Bank, Tenke Fungurume Mining and Tiger Resources Limited, as platinum sponsors.
Meanwhile, the highlight of the event will be the DRC Mining Industry Awards.
