LAGOS – GLOBACOM, the country’s indigenous telecommunication service provider, is set to launch a mobile money agent network it is hopeful would culminate in locals embracing mobile money.

Called the Glo Xchange, the initiative is in partnership with licensed mobile money operators, Firstmonie, Ecobank and Stanbic IBTC.

The company, which has scheduled the launch for Lagos tomorrow, said the much needed distribution network would accelerate the mobile money revolution.

According to a statement from Globacom, the launch will hold at the Grand Ball Room of Eko Hotels and Suites on Victoria Island.

The Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, is lined up to attend the launch alongside senior officials of government and parastatals, managing directors of banks, captains of industry and other stakeholders.

The launch of the distribution network comes amid a less-than-encouraging adoption of mobile money since the initiative started locally in 2011.

A lack of proper information on mobile money and issues of mistrust and fear of security have been cited as the reasons behind the lukewarm adoption.
