Chiefs aim to reclaim the glory

JOHANNESBURG – SOWETO giants, Kaizer Chiefs, have sent a statement of intent in their quest to reclaim the Absa Premiership by maintaining a perfect start to the season.
In their latest outing on Tuesday, Chiefs shot to the top of the 16-team log following a narrow victory over Bloemfontein Celtic in an evenly balanced league match played at FNB Stadium in Soweto.
Vastly-improved Mandla Masango scored the only goal of the evening that sent a sizeable crowd into frenzy.
The win gave the Amakhosi three straight wins in the league to dislodge cross city rivals Moroka Swallows, who are hosting Mamelodi Sundowns tonight at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto, at the top.
If Swallows beat the defending champions, they will retain pole position. Anything less than three points will leave Chiefs in pole position.
Meanwhile, in another encounter, played at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, visiting Ajax Cape Town beat the hosts Polokwane City 2-1.
Ajax Cape Town scored through Thabiso Nkoana and Tashriq Morris while Abbubaker Mobara’s own goal helped City reduce the deficit.
The rest of the teams are in action this evening.
Free State Stars lock horns with equally-struggling Supersport United while Orlando Pirates host Amazulu at Orlando Stadium.
Bidvest Wits welcome Maritzburg United to Milpark as Mpumalanga Black Aces host Platinum Stars at Mbombela Stadium.
Chippa United and University of Pretoria will meet at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
