MASVINGO – A NEW low-cost airline is poised to boost the revival of the tourism sector in Zimbabwe.

Fly Africa has resumed operations with a flight between the capital Harare and the resort town of Victoria Falls at a cost of R99.

“We are happy with such a development and we hope tourism players will benefit immensely from such a facility.

“We would want to see more flights as we try to rebuild our image and attract tourists around the globe,” Tourism and Hospitality Minister, Walter Mzembi, said.

He said government would ensure that more flights entered the country where the national carrier, Air Zimbabwe, is battling financial problems and its ageing fleet among others.

Most aeroplanes of the national carrier are currently grounded while those in operation were once described as a flight risks.

Transport, Communication and Infrastructure Development Minister, Obert Mpofu said government would ensure at least18 airlines plied the country’s
routes by the year 2018.

“We would want to see more airlines. To us it (entry of more operators) is a good development because all we need is convenience when traveling,” he said.

The new airline according to its website, will introduce more flights between Harare and Johannesburg next week.

The airline is currently charging about USD 105 for a trip from the capital Harare to the South African city.

The new airline has partnered Germany’s Lufthansa airways whose role is mainly to provide training to the new airline.
