CAF to act on Seychelles AFCON withdrawal
by SAVIOUS KWINIKA
JOHANNESBURG – SEYCHELLES risks punishment by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for its last-minute withdrawal from the Orange African Cup of Nations (CHAN) encounter against Sierra Leone.
The country wrote to CAF on Thursday advising about its decision to pull out of the Morocco 2015 qualification play-offs.
Though CAF did not reveal the full contents and reasons of Seychelles’ letter of withdrawal, suggestions are that the football mother body might effect a ban on the Indian Island nation.
Seychelles was set to host Sierra Leone on Saturday in the second leg of the CAF 2015 second round of qualifying stage.
In the first leg, Sierra Leone beat Seychelles 2-0 in an encounter contested in Freetown two weeks ago.
Meanwhile, CAF has announced that the withdrawal of Seychelles would automatically see Sierra Leone progress to the next stage of the tournament joining Ivory Coast, Cameroon and DR Congo in Group D of the next qualifying rounds.
