from REGERAI PEPUKAI in Masvingo, Zimbabwe
MASVINGO – THE death toll in the traffic accident in Mwenezi in southern Zimbabwe has risen to 20 after for more people died in hospital.

Sources at the Zimbabwe Republic Police told this news agency the survivors died at Masvingo General Hospital where they were treated for
severe injuries.

“Four more people have since died and several others are still in critical
condition,” said a reliable source within the Masvingo police.

The horror crash happened along the Masvingo-Beitbridge highway where a
truck and a commuter omnibus collided head-on.

Fifteen people died on the spot while another died on admission at Neshuro

Some of the injured people were taken to Neshuro hospital before being
transferred to Masvingo General Hospital while others where taken to
Beitbridge Hospital.

Sources said that some of the critically injured were transferred to Bulawayo.

The death toll has risen amid concerns from relatives of the critically
injured that hospitals were not offering adequate treatment.

“Two of my relatives were in the commuter bus during the accident. The
treatment is inadequate. If things continue, I would ask for authorities
to discharge them.

“Our hospitals have become death traps because when I went there yesterday (Tuesday) the injured were just being given pain killers and we can not watch them helplessly as they die,” added Mukova.
