SA sitting pretty in C’wealth medals table

JOHANNESBURG – SOUTH Africa is among the highest ranked nations in the ongoing Commonwealth Games medals rankings table.

The country, which sits fourth on the 54-team table, has amassed a total of 24 medals.

South Africa boasts nine gold medals, seven silver and eight bronze medals.

It is the only country in the top five.

Australia leads the pack with a total of 87 medals, followed by England with 74.

Scotland is third with 33 medlas while Canada completes the top five with 24.

Other African nations that have fought hard to keep the continent’s flag high comprise Nigeria on 10th position and Kenya a rung lower.

Nigeria has to date collected three gold medals comprising four silver and three bronze while Kenya won a total of five medals including two gold and three silver medals.

Cameroon, another African nation, is occupying the 15th position with a total of three medals comprising a gold, silver and bronze.
