MTN launches low cost prepaid plan

JOHANNESBURG – SOUTH Africa’s second largest network by subscriber base – MTN says it has introduced an offering that would enable customers make calls at 29 cents per minute.

The mobile network operator described MTN Pulse as an exciting prepaid price plan aimed at the youth market.

The first 60 seconds of the day first call on the day is charged at 79c/min, thereafter a 29c/min rate applies for the rest of the day for all MTN Pulse to MTN Pulse calls.

Larry Annetts, Chief Marketing Officer: MTN South Africa, said MTN Pulse was tailored for the customer that is on the lookout for value.

“MTN Pulse is a culmination of insight gathering we had undertaken into our youth market, we know they demand customized products and solutions that they can identify with,” said Annetts.

Non MTN Pulse local calls on-net (MTN) will be charged at 79c/min.

Off-net calls are charged at R1.20. Any prepaid customer can join the Pulse community by dialing *141*4*6#.

The offering is the latest in a series of promotions South African network operators have introduced amid stiff competition among the operators.

Other operators include Vodacom, Cell C and Telkom Mobile.
