JOHANNESBURG – THE South African Communist Party, a member of the country’s tripartite alliance, has condemned the United States and its allies for double standards when they failed to condemn Israel’s ongoing spate of attacks that have left hundreds of Palestinians dead.

The death toll has been put at 500 with a majority of these being children and women.

SACP national spokesman, Alex Mashilo, said the United States and allies had displayed hypocrisy amid the onslaught of the Palestinians.

“The SACP notes and condemns in the strongest terms possible the hypocritical posturing by Western imperialist states.

“In the first instance, the war in Ukraine is a direct result of the support by the US and its Western European allies’ funding and arming of neo-Nazis to overthrow the democratically elected government,” Mashilo said.

He said the “murders” of Palestinians were all committed indiscriminately as collective punishment, arguing that they were carried out against unarmed civilians, children and women.

In the deadliest attacks on Sunday morning, 60 people were killed.

“President Barack Obama and his allies are quick to condemn those involved in the Malaysian airline tragedy, masquerading as the world’s human rights police, but they continue to justify decades of Zionist genocidal attacks against the Palestinian people as the right to self-defence.

“The SACP reiterates its condemnation of Israel’s outrageous campaign of brutalisation and murder of the Palestinian people in strongest terms possible, and calls for the immediate evacuation of the occupied Palestinian territories by Israel as well as an end to Israel’s colonisation of Palestine,” Mashilo said.

The SACP, an ally of the ruling African National Congress (ANC) urged the United Nations to intervene “urgently” in order to stop the “extermination” of the Palestinians.

Meanwhile, the SA communists sent condolences to the families of about 300 people who died in Malaysian Airlines plane that suspected Ukraine separatists aligned to Russia shot down.
