UN pledges further solidarity in fight against terror

ABUJA – THE United Nations has reiterated its full solidarity and support for Nigeria on the ongoing fight against insecurity challenges.

The special representative of the United Nations Secretary General for West Africa, Djinnit Said, gave the indication during a visit to Defence Headquarters in Abuja.

He acknowledged the role of Nigeria in global peace and stability, saying the UN was committed to assisting Nigeria overcome terror challenges.

Said added that as a committed member of the international community, Nigeria deserved support in reciprocation of its sacrifices to the stability of the international system over the years.

The UN special envoy said the body would work on supporting Nigeria with initiatives in areas such as employment, tolerance, confidence building, emergency management and Human rights issues.

Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, appreciated the UN assistance in areas of training on international humanitarian law and Red Cross as well as disarmament and demobilization process.

He enlisted the support of the United Nations in sensitising the international community on Nigeria’s peculiar situation and efforts being made to surmount insurgency.
