JOHANNESBURG – SOUTH Africa’s militant, the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) has called upon President Jacob Zuma’s government to expel Israel Ambassador with immediate effect citing its hostility and killing of innocent civilians in Palestine.

NUMSA’S International Officer, Hlokoza Motau, said apart from the expulsion of Israeli Ambassador in South Africa, Arthur Lenk, NUMSA was also advocating for the recall of South Africa Ambassador to Israel, Sisa Ngombane, who is based in Tel Aviv.

NUMSA also wants the country’s National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to follow-up and investigate the Gaza Docket before prosecuting all South Africans that participated in Israel’s war-crimes against the Palestinians.

“NUMSA calls for the immediate expulsion of the Israeli ambassador in South Africa, Arthur Lenk, and the recall of Comrade Sisa Ngombane from Tel Aviv.

“Israel must be politically isolated in the same way that Apartheid South Africa was. We also call on the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to follow-up and investigate the Gaza Docket, and prosecute all South Africans conscripted to the IDF, and participating in Israel’s war-crimes against the Palestinians,” Motau said.

Motau said the union supported Palestinian civil society’s call for an immediate, full military embargo on Israel.

“South African citizens and businesses must be discouraged from supporting Israeli settlements – illegal under international law,” Motau said.

He called upon South Africans not to buy or sell products from Israeli settlements before urging the Department of Trade and Industry to effect the bans.

“We call on the South African government and Non-Aligned Movement to support the implementation of a comprehensive Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign against Israel until the Israeli government,” Motau said.

Among other issues NUMSA demand comprise the releases of all Palestinian political prisoners immediately, ends its occupation of the West Bank including East Jerusalem, and dismantles the Apartheid Wall, acknowledges the right of return of Palestinian refugees as well as relinquishes its nuclear weapons, and accedes to the Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Hundreds of people, mostly women and children have been killed following Israeli’s surge on the Gaza Strip.
