Army suffers casualties in Borno clash

ABUJA – THREE soldiers have died in a combat that killed an unspecified number of terrorists in Delwa and neighbouring communities in Borno State.

This was disclosed in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday by the Defense Headquarters.

According to the statement, the ambush happened about 35kilometres to Maiduguri the state capital.

“Troops on patrol around Delwa and neighbouring communities on Wednesday successfully broke through insurgents’ ambush 35kilometres to Maiduguri as they advanced to dislodge insurgents who were massing up in the area,” the statement said.

It added that three soldiers died in action and seven others sustained various degrees of injuries.

“The fierce fire fight that ensued as the troops wadded through the ambush left scores of insurgents dead, while three soldiers died in action and seven soldiers who incurred various degrees of injuries have been evacuated for treatment while the troops have continued with their mission,” read a statement.
